Menno’s view: a perspective on green growth In the Netherlands, we are
It is a lovely tradition: once a year, the Hague team goes on a company outing, more modernly referred to as the “Secret Escape.” This year was a particularly special edition. In mid-October, we celebrated our 10th anniversary over three days on a hill in Umbria, even though we formally no longer exist. Since 1 October, we have been part of FGS Global, the worldwide leader in strategic communication and public affairs.
This is what one might call a “rite de passage”; a trip planned long ago, during which we, as the Hague team, could shed our old skin and reveal our new form in the full glory of the Italian late summer sun. There was a slight sense of nostalgia, mixed with cheerful expectations for an exciting future.
It was a perfect moment to eliminate each other in serious battles. This took place on the first day at the Umbria Activity Park, where two teams in camouflage clothing had to capture the flag while shooting. This was known as soft air, involving small plastic pellets. The soft air resulted in loud cries and bruises, but all the consultants survived. This certainly creates a bond.
Much of the pain was compensated for by the programme over the next two days: a truffle hunt with dogs through the hills of Umbria, a wine tasting, and a pilgrimage visit to the beautiful city of Assisi, especially significant for the Catholics among us. All of this framed content-focused workshops about our future plans and the dilemmas we face in our work.
Joy ultimately triumphed over nostalgia. We are now FGS Global. This was our last Hague Secret Escape. And what an escape it was!
