Felipe García-Echeverri

Felipe García-Echeverri is Associate Partner at Hague Corporate Affairs. He supports Hague’s Latin American and Caribbean clients to advance their interests in the European Union, as well as advising international clients in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region.

After a brilliant career in Colombia as a senior civil servant, serving notably as Vice President for Colombia’s National Electoral Council, Mr Mr García-Echeverri served as Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, as well as Chief of the Colombian Mission to the European Union and NATO from 2019 to 2022. During his tenure, he promoted the efforts of Colombia and its private sector on sustainability issues – such as in the conservation and preservation of forests and the fight against deforestation – as well as in security and defence.

“I am glad to join Hague and contribute to advancing the interests of the LAC region before European policymakers and stakeholders, and vice versa. The European Union and the LAC region have a long-standing strategic relationship based on shared values, history, and culture as well as solid economic ties in critical sectors such as agri-food, digital and defence. Today, more than ever, this partnership is of geopolitical importance. I look forward to furthering the collaboration on strategic files on both sides, together with Hague’s team”.

Background

A seasoned lawyer, Mr García-Echeverri started his professional career in the private sector. In 1997, he co-founded the Law Firm Duarte García Abogados (DG&A – Abogados), where he practiced corporate law, foreign investment and trade, and counselled companies in various sectors – from energy to retail and hospitality – on topics such as environment, sustainability, and labour negotiations.

He moved to the public sector in 2014, when he was appointed Magistrate of Colombia’s National Electoral Council for the constitutional term 2014-2018, and served as its Vice President between 2014 and 2015, before taking on his role as Ambassador. Mr García-Echeverri is also an International Arbitrator, certified by the Supreme Court of Florida (USA), as well as former professor of pre and post graduate studies in the Pontifical Javeriana University (Colombia) and the Sergio Arboleda University (Colombia).
