Mats Wijnen

Mats Wijnen is Junior Advisor at Hague Corporate Affairs. Mats is a passionate analyst of social transitions, with a passion for the dynamics between politics and media. In the Netherlands, where ‘poldering’ is an old tradition, Mats sees the need for cooperation between government, business and civil society organisations. Especially now that the interests of different organisations are conflicting more often and more visibly.

In recent years, Mats has gained valuable experience at two industry associations. At both NLdigital and Energie-Nederland, he has experienced the importance and challenges of public-private partnerships up close. About his time at these associations, Mats says: ‘In these rapidly changing sectors the media and politics kept a sharp eye on every new development. For companies, it is crucial to closely follow these sometimes-critical articles and political discusions and anticipate in time.’ With this background, Mats now interprets developments in the tech and energy sectors, among others, for clients at Hague.

Background

Mats obtained his bachelor’s at Leiden University in ‘Law’ and ‘International Relations and Organisations’, with a focus on the European Union. During these bachelors and his master ‘Public Administration: Politics, Policy and Management’, he worked part-time at NLdigital. After a short traineeship at the change management consultancy firm SeederDeBoer, he worked at Energie-Nederland for a year. Here, Mats immersed himself in the topics of grid congestion, the energy law and regional production.
